This weekend, February 7-9, is Step Sing 2019 at Samford University Wright Center.  To get an idea on what Step Sing is like, here is the full 2018 show.

Step Sing began as a sing-along on the steps of Renfroe Hall at the Howard College East Lake Campus in 1951. It was held once a semester and soon became a competition. In 1957, Howard College moved to its present location on Lakeshore Drive, bringing with it the tradition of Step Sing. In 1976, Step Sing moved to its current home in the Samford University Wright Center.

Under the direction of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and the Office of Student Activities and Events, Step Sing is organized by students, including musical arrangement, choreography and costume design. Step Sing has become an educational activity in which students participate through leadership development, organizational administration, and time management. Students perform three days to sold-out audiences. It continues to be one of Samford’s most popular traditions, and is a popular event not only among students, but also prospective students, employees, alumni, and the Birmingham community.

For 2019, Step Sing is partnering with the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama.  Community Food Bank of Central Alabama is committed to feeding people in need today and fostering collaborative solutions to end hunger tomorrow. CFB serves Jefferson County and 10 other counties in Central Alabama, feeding over 60,000 people at risk of hunger every month. Find out more about the work of this incredible organization at feedingal.org.

Step Sing will be raising funds for the Kids Meal Campaign that addresses childhood hunger in our city and the surrounding counties. Community Food Bank is able to provide Weekender Backpacks to feed a child for an entire weekend at a very low cost. With a gift of just $20, you can provide 5 Weekender Backpacks for children in need. We hope you will consider donating to help Step Sing make a meaningful impact on our city. Every dollar counts – just $1 provides 8 meals!
