Welcome to the Science Mondays segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Science Mondays will feature stuff from the world of science and science related content. Our goal here at Geek Alabama is to hopefully have you learn something useful and fulfilling. Science is a geek’s best friend, and we love featuring science content here at Geek Alabama.

AMOC collapse isn’t just Europe’s problem.

A weaker Atlantic circulation can reduce northward heat transport while raising sea levels along parts of North America’s Atlantic coast. The same ocean system connects very different risks, from European winters to coastal flooding in the United States and Canada.

We will follow the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation from Greenland’s sinking water to the RAPID monitoring array, operating since 2004. We also explain why the Gulf Stream and AMOC are connected but different, why climate models disagree, and where NOAA and Fisheries and Oceans Canada provide regional sea-level information.

These are measurements, reconstructions and conditional scenarios, not a forecast of an imminent shutdown.
