G63530, running from Columbus, OH to Hamlet, NC with 179 loads of grain, derailed on July 3rd at about 4pm, and three cars fell off the viaduct into the Canal below at Rivanna Junction. This train was 24,327 tons and 10,762ft long. The two mid-train DPs, CSXT 3380 and 7096 (not occupied), were among the affected equipment. Approximately six cars and the two locomotives derailed, with three of the hoppers falling into the Canal below. The official cause is not yet known, but it is likely related to the rapid increase in temperature. These video clips were taken on Independence Day, July 4, 2026.
