Welcome to the Roadscapes Wednesday segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Roadscapes Wednesday will feature roads and infrastructure related topics. Geek Alabama Editor / Publisher Nathan Young is often called the “road geek” for a good reason, Nathan loves roads and loves talking about roads!

Interstate 68 is one of the shorter two-digit interstates clocking in at 113 miles the the freeway abruptly ends. Cutting across the Appalachians of Western Maryland and then briefly into the middle of Northern West Virginia. I-68 comes to a halt outside of Morgantown at Interstate 79, a north-south route. Travelers leaving the crowded Baltimore and DC area headed west may avoid Interstate 68 since it does not travel further west. This is the story of Interstate 68, its abrupt end and its debated path to continue westward. Follow along as I take you through the mountains to show you the challenges, terrain and existing connections to extend I-68 to make it more desirable to long-haul travelers.
