The April 27, 2011 Super Outbreak produced some of the deadliest and most destructive tornadoes in U.S. history — and among the very worst was the Rainsville, Alabama EF5. Tearing through DeKalb County with winds estimated over 200 mph, this monster storm left behind catastrophic damage and a lasting mark on the community. Entire neighbourhoods were wiped off the map, schools and businesses were destroyed, and lives were forever changed in just minutes.

Caught on video and remembered as one of the most brutal tornadoes of the outbreak, the Rainsville EF5 stands as a sobering example of the sheer power of nature. In this video, we break down how this violent tornado formed, the devastation it caused, and the resilience of the people who endured it.
