Aspie Business Review: Lulu’s Place

In my opinion, downtown Anniston still needs a lot of help.  But I did make an effort to try out one of the newer restaurants, Lulu’s Place.

Lulu’s place specializes in coastal cuisine with a southern influence.  Me and some of my family went out to try them on a Saturday evening.  My first concern was being a Saturday evening,  the place was practically empty.

Restaurants are usually packed on a Friday and Saturday evening, but it was shocking to see hardly anyone there.  I have been talking to other people in the area who all agree that Lulu’s Place is in a bad location.

The inside looks nice, and they had a musician playing music with a saxophone, he was playing some pretty good music.

Their menu is not too big, a lot of steak and seafood dishes.  We all ordered steak dinners and one burger dinner.

My biggest concern is the prices.  When you charge nearly $40 for a steak dinner, it better be the best steak dinner I’ve ever had.  The steak was good, and the pepper sauce on top of the steak had a good kick to it.  I also enjoyed the Steak frites.

My other family member liked the burger as well, but the burger was nearly $20 as well.

And you know something is off when the waiter who was serving us was talking about a new restaurant that was about to open in Jacksonville.   I asked the waiter how business was going at Lulu’s Place, and they said it was very slow.

Overall, the entire meal was around $230 for five people and a baby.  You see, I have seen many restaurants in Anniston open and then close since I moved here.  Anniston cannot support expensive restaurants, it just can’t!

Many people in Anniston do not make much income, and our city officials are pretty much on their knees begging people to come to downtown Anniston.  For a Saturday evening you would expect downtown Anniston to be a lot busier, but as seen in the picture below, it was pretty much dead.

If I can go to Texas Roadhouse, and get a steak dinner with a bunch of food for way under the price of a steak dinner at Lulu’s Place, you know they’re going to be struggling to survive.

Anniston needs to focus on bringing in more affordable restaurants that the average person in Anniston can patronize.  Otherwise, downtown Anniston will continue to struggle with a bunch of empty buildings around.

Overall, I thought the food at Lulu’s place was good and tasty.  But it’s just way too overpriced.
