I am a storyteller and have always enjoyed spinning tall tales, especially for children who live in a world of imagination and pretend and thrive on unusual, fantastical stories. See the photo above? Yup, that’s me. Although I tell many stories, publishing a children’s book was not on my Bingo card this year. Yet, here we are!
“If Mice Pulled the Sleigh” is a story of laughter and imagination. But where did the idea come from?
Two years ago, a little boy asked about my reindeer. In my business, that is a very important question!
With a twinkle in my eye, I explained, “Can I tell you a secret? The sleigh is really heavy, so in the beginning, I thought elephants should pull the sleigh.”
“Elephants!” His eyes widened.
I shook my head slowly. “Yes, elephants! Oh my goodness, that was my worst idea ever!” I continued to explain, “It turns out that elephants can’t really fly. They walk very slow.”
“And,” I looked around, paused for a moment, then leaned closer…
“I have never seen so much poop!”
The little boy laughed and laughed.
Children need books to read while giggling, imagining, and inventing their own stories. After thousands of visits with children, I have learned how much they need laughter and ideas that spark pure imagination. For children, this is magical.
