Welcome to the Roadscapes Wednesday segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Roadscapes Wednesday will feature roads and infrastructure related topics. Geek Alabama Editor / Publisher Nathan Young is often called the “road geek” for a good reason, Nathan loves roads and loves talking about roads!

In the US, there are many federal highways stretching throughout the nation. Most notably, the interstate system. Theres also US highways, which pre-date the interstate system and are known to more often be smaller, less traffic-heavy routes. Both of these groups of highways stretch across the country, connecting each state and major city to eachother, but each state also has its own system of roads and highways.

These are funded by the state, upkept by the state, and have a wide range of what condition they are in. Some states have chosen to sink plenty of funding into making sure their roads are high quality, while others have struggling to keep up, and have let a high percent of their highways fall into bad condition. So today I wanted to talk about that, going over some states I think can compete for this title, and give my thoughts on who the winner is at the end.
