Welcome to the Roadscapes Wednesday segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Roadscapes Wednesday will feature roads and infrastructure related topics. Geek Alabama Editor / Publisher Nathan Young is often called the “road geek” for a good reason, Nathan loves roads and loves talking about roads!
Something unique to America is the interstate system, the map of highways established in 1956, carving out countrysides and cities to create connections to almost every major city in the US. Now this was a government program, with new highways specific to this title being constructed using government dollars. There are many different standards that these roads are forces to abide by, but the most important one is that they must be limited-access, meaning there are no surface intersections.
Now with this, there are also other highways throughout the US that meet these requirements, but they haven’t been approved and entered into the interstate system, so thats what I wanted to look at in this video, and go over some highways that deserve to be entered into the interstate system.
