For Clare, this isn’t just a project, it’s her second act! With your help, this veteran actress can fulfill her life-long dream of stepping behind the scenes to help shape the future of her industry.
In ‘Roach Trip,’ a woman has broken up with her boyfriend and given up on her dreams of being an actress in Los Angeles. She’s packed her life in her suv and is on her way to Tucson, Arizona, to start some kind of new life. On the way, a very unwelcome hitchhiker surreptitiously joins her at a gas station: a giant cockroach. When it makes its presence known at the most inopportune moment, the already fraught road trip turns into a catastrophic roach trip.
This movie is about the moment that I learned my nervous system doesn’t know the difference between an ex and a cockroach. I’ve always been more attuned to the company of non-humans than of humans, in fact, I find the world disastrously lonely without birdsong, leaves rustling, cicadas buzzing in the summer, and a cat snoring loudly, and I often find the world especially, disastrously lonely when I’m surrounded by other people.
‘Roach Trip’ is a horror story, but not for the reasons you might think. I know from experience that sharing an 8 hour drive with a cockroach is – don’t get me wrong, absolutely a nightmare – but I realized that I’ve lived that same nightmare with men who I’ve later gone on to have sex with so… this movie is an exploration of this lizard brain conflation.
I’ve always wanted to tell stories and now, surrounded by an amazing team, a great support system, and my own insistent muses, I’m so excited to bring all of these ideas to life, starting with my first short ‘Roach Trip.’
