We are a group of six awesome kids (ages 5, almost 6 to 9) from five different countries who became friends through a Kindness Project led by our author friend Ms. Argyro Graphy in 2021. Ever since then, we have been working together, reviewing books, attending workshops, and participating in various other projects with her.
When Ms. Graphy was asked to write a special story for a 6-year-old who lost his mom, we wanted to help. Suzie knew how important it would be for him because she lost her mom.
The characters in the story are actual friends of Winston. Dakota is a First Nations Indigenous girl. Her name comes from a Native American Sioux tribe meaning ‘friend’ and Zuri is a name of Swahili origin and means ‘beautiful’ Trudy has a German origin and means ‘universal strength’ and Winston’s friend Tommy is of British descent. The lion in the story carries the name Spirit which is the actual name of Winston’s pet dog. What perfect symbolic names in Winston’s circle of friends!
One day disaster strikes and Winston’s cherished blanket goes missing, leaving him in a state of panic and despair. A group of compassionate and understanding friends spotted the distressed bunny and decided to help find the missing blanket. Winston then explains the importance of this blanket.
