Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

ShortBox is thrilled to bring you a new graphic novel from Eisner-nominated, Annie-award winning artist, Joe Sparrow! ‘Cuckoo’ is a 200+page full-colour comic book about Dorothy, a girl who finds herself developing specific abilities, and her journey in deciding who she will become.

Already low in confidence regarding her art/college/social life, the breakdown of her parents’ relationship, and generally unsure about the direction her life is taking, Dorothy struggles to make sense of what exactly to do with these new ‘powers.’ Are they a gift- and if so, from whom? Does having a great gift mean sharing it with the world? What does having powers mean when you haven’t even worked out anything about who you are as a person? And most importantly: is art school worth it? ‘Cuckoo’ is asking all the big questions…

We’re incredibly excited to be bringing you this gorgeous book- Joe’s been working his socks off off on it and pulling out all the stops (and cliches!) for it.

With this Kickstarter, we’re looking to cover the costs of printing the book, shipping, fulfilment, project management, production, plus Kickstarter and payment processing fees. Along with debuting ‘Cuckoo,’ we’re taking the opportunity to reprint Joe’s 2019 Eisner-nominated comic, ‘Homunculus.’ We really want to keep Homunuclus in print, and this edition will have a new cover, title page, and a couple of pages of Joe’s sketches/designs.

We’re offering digital and print editions of ‘Cuckoo,’ as well as the opportunity to get both Cuckoo and the new edition of Homunculus as a bundle.  If you’re interested in a digital copy of Homunculus, you can get it right here with no need to wait.

As of August 17th, this project has raised $34,000 of their $26,507 goal. This project has 14 days left to raise as much as it can.  For a pledge of $11, you will get one digital copy.  For a pledge of $20, you will get one print book.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/shortbox/cuckoo-by-joe-sparrow?
