Crowdsourcing Mornings: The Disruptors

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

These days, being full of s*** is invaluable.

At the upper reaches of business, social media, technology, and the government, being able to blatantly lie with a straight face has become a respectable skill. Doing so for your own naked self-interest? That just shows how driven you are. If you’re the right type of person with money, connections, and the proper credentials, you can do and say whatever you want. Rules and the truth are for suckers and the poor.

Will and Glenn are sick of being poor suckers — they’ve got a plan to break the rules and get theirs, too.

We — Adam Frucci, Ally Beardsley, and Grant O’Brien — are making a movie together about figuring out how to live in a world where the rules don’t apply to everyone and you’re told you don’t have any value. We’d love your help!

The three of us worked together at CollegeHumor/Dropout, where, amongst many other things, we co-created the series Total Forgiveness. It was a show that looked at debt and class through the lens of a reality competition series. We’re incredibly excited to bring some of those same themes into a fully scripted feature-length film.

We already have a small budget together, but we’re looking to raise funds to flesh it out and allow us to really make this thing properly. Your support will help us:

In short, the more we’re able to raise, the higher our production value will be.

Best friends Will, a smooth-operating ride-share driver, and Glenn, a shut-in hacker, spend their days scamming Will’s riders for gift cards. This provides them with a relatively comfortable life outside of the system, which is exactly where they think they both belong. But when their shaky scheme starts to fall apart, they’re suddenly in need of real money.

After an attempt at going legit ends in humiliation, they concoct a risky plan to scam infamous billionaire venture capitalist Bruce Marcus: they’re going to create a fake startup he won’t be able to resist investing in.

This brings them into Bruce’s world of tech, money, and ego, a world that Bruce totally dominates.

As of November 26th, this project has raised $45,000 of their $75,000 goal. This project has 39 days left to raise the $75,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $25, you will get a digital link to the film.  For a pledge of $50, you will also get your name in the credits.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thedisruptors/the-disruptors?
