A world unto its own. Of past memories and future hopes, but mostly the possibilities of here and now. A world of fun and fantasy where anything is possible, and everything is ponderable.

Yellow doesn’t like himself very much; he feels alone, like he doesn’t fit in. Follow him through Kraylos as he learns about who he is and why he is so important.

Kraylos—Yellow Finds His Purpose is a whimsical story about a crayon that has lost his way in the world. Through the help of friends and self-reflection, Yellow comes to understand his purpose and place in the world, in the process finding the joy he sees in those around him.

This story originated as art from a person, my brother Shaid, that similarly lost his way and ended up in prison. Through soul-searching, counseling, and the advice and compassion of family and friends, Shaid found his way back to a love of art that had meant so much to his life. We are publishing this book to help Shaid see that he has value outside of past failures, that his past mistakes do not fully define his future, and that there is indeed a purpose for his life.

Shaid will be the first to tell you that prison saved his life. While there, he has been able to get off drugs, think clearly, and remember who he was before his unwise choices. He resides in the Honor’s dorm, where he sits with his colored pencils and draws extraordinary things. When challenged to illustrate and write a children’s book to share his art with others, Shaid scoffed, “Who would read a children’s book written by a convict?” The response he got from family and friends was overwhelmingly positive. So, with colored pencils in hand he began the art for his first book.

The name of his world, “Kraylos,” comes from an inmate who was fascinated by Shaid’s art. This man found Shaid one day and demanded to know if there was more “kraylos.” Thinking this was a new prison gang term that he didn’t know yet, Shaid panicked and braced for the worst. But the man looked at him and said, “The crayon man! The crayon! Where’s kraylos?” And so began Yellow’s journey through Kraylos.

As of August 24th, this project has raised $500 of their $5,000 goal.
