Roadscapes Wednesday: Interstate 20: Birmingham To Georgia | Drive America’s Highways

Welcome to Roadscapes Wednesday, each week this post will talk about roads and infrastructure related topics.  I am called the “road geek” for a good reason, I love roads and love talking about roads!

YouTube channel Interstate 411 has a new time-lapse road video featuring Interstate 20 from Birmingham to the Georgia state line.

We start the video entering a combined Interstate 20 and Interstate 59 on a flyover ramp from Interstate 65 in downtown Birmingham. Driving east, we pass a cluster of exits, the primary being US31/280, before leaving downtown. South of the Birmingham Airport, we continue east on Interstate 20 as Interstate 59 continues north at a trumpet interchange. Driving east, we soon pass the interchange with Interstate 459 as we leave the Birmingham area. Passing through Leeds (U.S. 411) and Pell City (U.S. 231), we cross the Coosa River and the interchange to the Talladega Superspeedway to reach Oxford, and the Talladega National Forest.

Passing through a narrower segment of the National Forest, we cross an interchange with AL-281 which runs the length of the Forest. Leaving the forest, we enter Heflin where we cross a pair of state highways before heading out of town to drive the last few miles before the Georgia state line, where we end the video.
