That’s because a Waffle House never closes – not even under some of the most dangerous weather conditions the Earth can muster. In fact, after a hurricane, the number of operating Waffle Houses in the area can give first responders a rough idea of the magnitude of the disaster. This has been called the Waffle House Index. If the Waffle Houses are closed, you know it’s bad.
