Hi! My name is Zoe. I am currently 15 years old and ever since I can remember I was always one of the only Jewish kids in my class at school. Whenever “Christmas” break would roll around everyone would always ask me what I was doing or what I wanted for Christmas. When I would reply and say “nothing” I would feel alone and sad.

It wasn’t until I went to Hebrew school and camp that I realized that I wasn’t alone and there were plenty of people in the world just like me. Even now as a freshmen in high school as the holidays come around I feel alone at times. I wrote this book in hopes that little kids (and adults) can see that they are not alone and that they should be proud of who they are. I hope that this book helps kids see that Hanukkah can be just as fun as Christmas and help them see Hanukkah in a new light.

It’s been over a year since I wrote the original draft of the story. In this past year I have been working on getting the story just right. I began the process of getting the story illustrated. This book is something that I wish I could have had when I was a little girl so I wouldn’t have felt so out of place during the holiday season.

Hannah is the only Jewish girl at her school and around Christmas she begins to realize that she doesn’t celebrate it like everyone else. She is at a young enough age that she is yet to understand that just because she is Jewish doesn’t mean the holiday season won’t be fun. She questions her family why she can’t have a tree like everyone else and dreams about Santa coming to her house. In the end she can finally see that she has Hanukkah and her holiday is special just like Christmas.

As of December 24th, this project has raised $1,100 of their $1,300 goal. This project has 23 days left to raise the $1,300 or it will not be funded.  For a pledge of $1, you will get project updates.  For a pledge of $18, you will get one hardcover copy.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/zoelevy/hannahs-hanukkah-a-jewish-girl-at-christmas?
