Crowdsourcing Mornings: Empowered By The Sun

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at: https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines/

We are on a mission to bring solar energy education across the country and empower people of all ages to envision and start realizing a brighter future! Pun intended.  We will travel via Sunny, the solar powered van, to demonstrate that solar energy is a viable and readily accessible energy alternative and we need your support to get this project rolling, literally!

After a thorough research all of our 50 state’s educational standards, we were surprised to find a lack of standards relating to renewable energy. The majority of them do not require in-depth renewable energy education and the instruction on the subject of solar energy is mostly limited to students enrolled in Career and Technical Education programs, a.k.a. vocational schools.

We came to the conclusion that our students are not being prepared to face one of the most pressing issues of the 21st century: how to provide secure, reliable, clean, and affordable energy for future generations. However, we understand that teachers have a lot on their plate and school funding is unavailable sometimes. Teachers, don’t fret. We got you!

We strongly believe that solar energy should be taught to children across the country as a means to meet our current and future energy needs. Therefore, we spent the past four years developing and testing a curriculum that bridges the existing educational gap.

Our curriculum includes information about renewable energy, solar power, circuits, and how to make a circuit with solar power. The instruction is structured into a workshop that teaches our students how solar energy is harvested and how it can be used in an electrical and heating capacity.

The workshops will include videos and verbal information of the versatility of solar power as an energy source. Our students will work in teams to develop communication and critical thinking skills, but most important they will learn how to build electric circuits using solar power. This hands-on experience will enable them to fully grasp and understand the practical use of this renewable energy source!

As of July 2nd, this project has raised $7,500 of their $20,000 goal. This project has 32 days left to raise the $20,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $10, you will get a personal thank you.  For a pledge of $25, you will get a thank you card and sticker.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/empoweredbythesun/empowered-by-the-sun?
