Crowdsourcing Mornings: BoringPhone – The Minimalist Smartphone

Advertisements

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at: https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines/

The BoringPhone is a minimalist smartphone with all the useful things, but none of the distracting stuff.  Bridging the gap between “not enough” and “too much”, the BoringPhone is the perfect balance. The BoringPhone is a smartphone handset that doesn’t have a browser, email, social media or any other infinite-scroll apps. What it does have is calling, texting, camera, GPS maps, music, podcasts, tethering and more.

The BoringPhone is for people who want to spend less time on their phone, and more time doing the things that matter to them.  Smartphones are great, but by design they draw us into spending more and more time on them.  Because smartphones are engineered to capture our attention, it’s often not enough to simply say “I’m going to use my smartphone less.” To shift an unconscious habit we need to take conscious steps that change our behavior.  Deciding to use the BoringPhone is a deliberate choice to limit the amount of time you spend on your phone. When your phone is boring, there’s simply nothing mindless to do on it and so your time becomes available for other things.

As of June 17th, this project has raised $6,000 of their $12,986 goal. This project has 24 days left to raise the $12,986 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $3, you will get project updates.  For a pledge of $227, you will get one BoringPhone.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1535153164/boringphone-the-minimalist-smartphone
