Roadscapes Wednesday: How Diverging Diamonds Keep You From Dying

In the world of traffic engineering, there is a new type of intersection that is starting to pop up in more places.  This new type of intersection is called a diverging diamond.  Basically, at a freeway interchange, the non-freeway street traffic will swap the sides of the road.  And on either side of the highway, traffic lights regulate the flow of traffic.  This type of intersection eliminates those left turns across traffic at the on and off ramps.  And it speeds up the flow of traffic.

In this video from the YouTube channel austinmcconnell, he explains why the diverging diamond keeps the driver safer than the traditional intersection.  Yes, expect more diverging diamonds to pop up across the nation, enjoy the video!
