Last weekend was very busy in Selma! Over 80,000 people turned out for the 50th anniversary of the Bloody Sunday event in Selma over the Edmund Pettus Bridge. So, here are a few videos highlighting the event. The first video from Kevin Henderson and SkyBama was a drone video of the crowds on the bridge.
The second video from the PBS NewsHour YouTube channel features Gwen Ifill going to Selma to see what challenges remain 50 years after Bloody Sunday.
The next videos from The New York Times features videos about how a murder of a white minister spurred the Civil Rights movement, and a video about Gay Talese reflecting on race relations in America.
And this last video from RETRO REPORT features a story about Gee’s Bend, and how the taking away of the ferry would harm the community. A good video!
And let’s not forget the speech President Obama gave on Saturday in Selma. Probably one of his best speeches in his career.
