Yes, programs on PBS can last for a very long time, just ask Sesame Street!  Austin City Limits is an American public television music program recorded live in Austin, Texas; by PBS, public television member station KLRU-TV, and broadcast on many PBS stations around the United States. The show helped Austin to become widely known as the “Live Music Capital of the World”, and is the only television show to receive the National Medal of Arts, which it was awarded in 2003. It also won a rare institutional Peabody Award in 2011 “for its more than three decades of presenting and preserving eclectic American musical genres.”

The show first featured artists from the state of Texas, and featured music you found in Texas like country, blues, Tejano music, and rock-n’-roll.  Here is a video from the YouTube channel AustinCityLimitsTV, highlighting some of the legendary artists featured over almost four decades of Austin City Limits, and there are plenty to feature!

Today, Austin City Limits features regional, national, and international artists performing a wide range of musical styles, including jazz, alternative country, alternative rock, folk music, and jam band.  One of the most popular videos on their YouTube channel features the Alabama band, the Alabama Shakes with their song “Hold On.”  They did a great job with their performance, enjoy below!

Today, there is more to Austin City Limits other than the popular TV show.  The Austin City Limits Music Festival is an annual live music festival at Zilker Park in Austin.

And all shows from Austin City Limits are digitally archived “in perpetuity” at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s new Library and Archives.  With the Austin City Limits TV show, the Austin City Limits Music Festival, and other events like SXSW, Austin has become a cultural mecca!

Austin City Limits has become one of the best music shows on TV, thanks to the support of people like me and you, you knew I had to insert that!  Here’s to 40 more years of Austin City Limits, in their brand new studio called the Moody Theater and Studio.  Here is a classic video from the YouTube channel Docubloggers, who went behind the scenes at the old studio.
