In Defense Of The Comic Sans Font, Why I Support The Font

If there is one font that is the most disliked, its Comic Sans.  The modern Comic Sans was designed by Vincent Connare and released in 1994 by Microsoft Corporation.  It is classified as a casual, non-connecting script, and was designed to imitate the historical look of comic book lettering, for use in informal documents.  If you have Microsoft Word or other Office products, Comic Sans is one of the many fonts available for your choosing.  But, I don’t get why people are so against this font!  Some people have also wondered why the “GA” in the Geek Alabama logo looks like Comic Sans, it’s actually Kristen ITC.

Personally, I love the Comic Sans font!  It’s a cute and fun-loving font that I enjoy seeing when it’s printed on paper or on a website.  Comic Sans has its fans, and in the Netherlands, they even celebrate a Comic Sans day every July where some companies will transform their websites with the Comic Sans font for the day!  But for most people, they want to stay away from Comic Sans!  Most people believe words written in Comic Sans makes readers slightly less likely to believe that a statement they are reading is true.  And there are websites like bancomicsans.com and comicsansmustdie.tumblr.com/  which are devoted to banning Comic Sans forever.  Even some governments have proposed bills to ban the font.  In my belief, I think these people have gone crazy.

There is even a website called comicsanscriminal.com, where they want people to sign a pledge to never use Comic Sans except for the appropriate time, like writing for kids, writing comic books, or writing for dyslexics.  Yeah, I think these people have not seen the true delight of this font!  Comic Sans is a font that is hip and fun, I enjoy reading things in this unique font.  I think this font is easy to read and has a calming effect when you read anything written with this font.  And I also like creating papers and signs with this font!  Although, companies hate it when they see this font in the workplace.

Graphic designer Craig Rozynski hated Comic Sans so much, he decided to build a new font called Comic Neue.  Comic Sans wasn’t designed to be the world’s most ubiquitous casual typeface.  Comic Neue aspires to be the casual script choice for everyone including the typographically savvy.  The squashed, wonky, and weird glyphs of Comic Sans have been beaten into shape while maintaining the honesty that made Comic Sans so popular.  Comic Neue is perfect as a display face, for marking up comments, and writing passive aggressive office memos.  Here is an example of Comic Sans and Comic Neue in action.

So, will Comic Neue take over Comic Sans, and become the top casual typeface people will want to use.  I think Comic Neue is a cool looking font, and I think either Comic Sans and Comic Neue looks cool!  If you want to learn more about Comic Neue and download the font, go to: comicneue.com/

Like it or not, Comic Sans is the best font in the world, enjoy the Comic Sans song!
