The media on TV and online has become a wasteland of only publishing stories that will generate the most comments and generate the most social media shares. So when Olympic athlete Kate Hansen published a video on her YouTube page of a wolf in a Sochi hotel, many thought it was real, we all now know it was a parody video!
On Thursday night during Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jimmy Kimmel announced that his show made that fake wolf video. The wolf was from America, and the hotel set was built at the studio, after Kate Hansen sent a real picture of her hotel hallway to the show’s staff. Kate also gave the show access to her social media accounts, to make this look like it was real. Here is video from the show on how this prank was done.
First off, thank you Jimmy Kimmel for pranking all of America once again! It’s sad to see how desperate most of the media has become for a story. As soon as this wolf video was published on YouTube, most sports and media websites had a story! And many newscasts including CNN and NBC had stories about this on their morning news. Why can’t the media do some fact checking before they post stories like this? This is not the first time Jimmy Kimmel has pranked the media, remember that twerking fire video?
The wolf video actually caused some panic in Sochi. Russian officials started freaking out because technically it was a breach in athlete safety. Now, Russian officials are angry at Jimmy Kimmel for making a false video. But seriously, the media should be embarrassed right about now. Because the late night hosts are hosing them down! Jimmy Kimmel is not the only one who likes to target the media. Conan O’Brien also makes fun of the media, with his Newscasters Agree videos.
Media, you need to quit making fun of yourselves! Most media has become a vast wasteland of who can get that story out the fastest, without first checking to see if that story has any substance. Yes, the media is compromising the quality of their work to put out junk stories faster and more often. And all types of media are doing this, from Fox News all the way to Politico. The media should be ashamed of themselves.
I guess the mainstream media is never going to learn about taking the time to make sure the story has merit before hitting the publish button. Media should never rush a story out just so the story can rank high on the search engines. Yes, there have been some legit problems during the Sochi Winter Olympic games, from unfinished buildings to security scares. But come on, even with the stray dog problems in Sochi, do you really believe a wolf would just walk right into a hotel? This is something you would only see in a movie!

Kudos to US Olympic luger Kate Hansen and Jimmy Kimmel for embarrassing the media. Maybe this is the wakeup call the media needs to actually put out real stories that people should care about. Everyday, more and more people are becoming more skeptical of the media, and it includes Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, and most left and right media sources. Instead of criticizing another political figure, why not talk about someone who is trying to make the world better? Instead of talking about another celebrity figure who is in trouble with the law, why not talk about a person who is changing the way kids learn? Instead of talking about why a certain group of people are bad for America. Why not talk about people who are trying to find the cure of a certain disease?
The media needs to change their focus on what they report! I believe the media is somewhat responsible for the dividing of this country. The media needs to quit criticizing one party or one group of people. The media just needs to report the news! The media needs to fact-check every story! The media needs to be credible, and quit reporting these junk stories that does not deserve the light of day! Come on media, actually report something people needs to care about! Until the media actually changes their focus, the late night comics will continue making fun of you! And people will continue to shake their heads!
