This is a post where you help out a friend on social media.  Scott McClellan is an avid weather watcher and chases storms during severe weather events.  He runs Alabama Storm Spotters and keeps his followers on social media up to date on weather information and other interesting stuff during quiet times.  Scott decided to set up a scholarship fund in honor of his late father David J. McClellan.  The plan is to award 15 scholarships totaling $500 each for students going to Jacksonville State University.  The fundraising goal is $7500 but sadly only $740 has been donated toward this goal.

Here is some information about the scholarship.

Mr. McClellan was born and raised in the Mill Village area of Jacksonville, AL in 1939. He proudly attended and graduated from Jacksonville High School. And attended Jacksonville State to pursue an English degree.  He served in the United States Army, and was an employee at the Fort McClellan post office for over 32 years. After ‘retirement’, he worked part time at the Fort McClellan Credit Union in Anniston, AL.  Mr. McClellan passed away on September 18, 2011, after a short battle with lung cancer. He remained a steadfast Gamecock fan throughout his life, passing on that love to the rest of his family.

Some of his final gifts and letters of support came from the Gamecock basketball team and Coach James Green. Long time JSU baseball coach Rudy Abbott encouraged him during his sickness, and attended his memorial service after his passing.  In honor of my father’s love for Jacksonville State University, the David J. McClellan Memorial Scholarship Fund has been set up, to offer prospective JSU students, who have a parent/parents suffering from cancer, the opportunity to further their education, while helping to relieve some of the financial stress placed on their families during the trying times of sickness.  He was a stout proponent of a worthwhile education, and making the most of what it can offer.

So to help out a social media friend.  Please click on the link below and donate!  I wish I could donate but being unemployed for 17 months puts a lot of limits on what you can donate.  Donate at: http://www.gofundme.com/mcclellanscholarshipfund.
