Crowdsourcing Mornings: Unruly: Category-Defying Picture Books For Adults And Teens

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Who we are:

Enchanted Lion is a small and scrappy, woman-owned-and-operated, fiercely independent children’s book publisher working out of Brooklyn, New York. Since 2003, we’ve been known for publishing beautiful, unusual children’s books from around the world, translated into English. We have been honored to receive many prestigious awards for our books in translation and have focused on publishing those that are culturally distinct.

So why are we on Kickstarter right now? Because we have a wonderful young imprint called Unruly, launched in 2020, that we know will flourish, if it can but take root. We come to you in search of support for Unruly because we have a stunning and inspiring lineup of books. Revealingly, all but one of the books we’ve identified for Unruly will be in translation, for the reason that the kinds of picture books we are proposing are already being published in many parts of the world. Our aim is to give readers here more of the risky, challenging, complex kinds of adult picture books that are already being created, published and read elsewhere. In our line-up we have books coming from Spain, France, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, and Sweden. Please read on and join with us!

What is Unruly?

As an independent publisher of uncompromising books for children, Enchanted Lion has been pushing the boundaries of the picture book for the past 20 years. And now we’re pushing the boundaries even further, with Unruly: our exciting imprint of picture books intended specifically for adults and teenagers.

Our vision is to create a space where the picture book can truly break out for older readers, where it can expand and flourish as the boundless storytelling medium that it is.

As of December 12th, this project has raised $18,500 of their $82,000 goal. This project has 20 days left to raise the $82,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $12, you will get members only access.  For a pledge of $35, you will get one book.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/enchantedlion/unruly-category-defying-picture-books-for-adults-and-teens?
