Crowdsourcing Mornings: Newcomer: A Language Learning Game

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Newcomer is a fantasy video game where players are immersed in the second language they want to learn. 100+ characters to communicate with, eight language learning mechanics, and RPG features make second language acquisition an adventure. Designed for beginner – intermediate learners, players progress and learn a second language at their own pace.

Unlike mainstream language learning applications, Newcomer has no lessons, timers, or ads.  Newcomer makes language easier to learn by playing a game because learning is better when applying what you’re learning in meaningful experiences.  After completing the game, an absolute beginner is able to communicate in everyday situations with commonly-used expressions and elementary vocabulary.

A learner will have exposure to 1000s of words and phrases through conversations and books. Depending on the difficulty chosen, the amount of words + phrases learned will be 250 – 1500.

As of November 16th, this project has raised $17,100 of their $18,000 goal. This project has 8 days left to raise the $18,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $20, you will get one game copy.  For a pledge of $30, you will get early access to the game.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jasonkappes/newcomer-language-learning-rpg?
