Crowdsourcing Mornings: Paper Hearts Bookstore Book Truck

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Paper Hearts is a thoughtfully curated pop-up bookstore in Little Rock, Arkansas with big dreams and starry eyes. We sell new and used adult and children’s books. We are dedicated to selling books that readers can connect with in an environment that fosters joy, community, acceptance, and meaningful conversation. We aim to be accessible to the community around us. Through books, events, and partnerships, we strive to sustainably support the community’s curiosity and creativity. We want readers to shop with us and leave with a little more joy than before, excited for their next read.

Hi! My name is Beth and I am the owner of Paper Hearts Bookstore. As a former literacy teacher, proud Book It! participant, and avid bookworm, books have filled up so many spaces in my life- my home- my heart. Reading has opened countless doors and I hope that my current venture will help do that for others.

Over the past year, we have been popping up all over Little Rock and Central Arkansas. We have talked about and sold books over tacos and margaritas, listened to and shared poetry at a coffeehouse, picked out and discussed books with our book club, and helped to build a community of book readers and book collectors. We have had the time of our lives with Paper Hearts and we are looking to take that next step.

Our Goal

We are celebrating our one-year anniversary by kicking off a campaign for a BOOK TRUCK. We are seeking to raise $10,000 in order to purchase the truck, get it wrapped, and grow our inventory. The Paper Hearts Bookstore Book Truck will allow us to have a larger inventory and allow us to be even more mobile — the freedom! But why a Kickstarter campaign, you ask? Well, two reasons…

We have been able to start, launch, and grow a business over the past year without taking on debt. We want to continue that trend to show others that it can be done and so that we can make sound financial decisions in our own lives. This campaign will allow for the next step to happen to continue on that path.

Community. Community defines us. The community has shaped the bookstore from the time it began as an idea to the pop-up schedule the bookstore follows now. You might also notice I say “we” when talking about the bookstore. Paper Hearts is a one-woman show these days, but “we” is the collective you and I. I could not do any of this without you. Paper Hearts Bookstore really is a community-driven bookstore. This campaign is yet another example of that.

30 days, $10,000… will you help us?

As of August 16th, this project has raised $18,500 of their $10,000 goal. This project has 13 days left to raise the $10,000 or it will not be funded.  For a pledge of $5, you will get your name on their website.  For a pledge of $25, you will get a sticker.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paperheartsbooks/paper-hearts-bookstore-book-truck?
