Welcome to the Disability Awesome segment! Each week here on Geek Alabama, Disability Awesome will feature a person or persons with mental and / or physical disabilities who are doing awesome and great things! As editor / publisher Nathan Young has an disability (Autism), we here at Geek Alabama love it when others when disabilities do great things!

A nationwide coffee chain that hires those with disabilities is coming to Alabama!  Bitty & Beau’s Coffee are advocates for the value, acceptance, and inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the Wrights have dedicated their lives to making the world a better place for their children and others living with disabilities.

Amy & Ben Wright are the proud parents of four children — Lillie, Emma Grace, Beau and Bitty. Lillie was born with autism, and Bitty & Beau were born with Down syndrome.

With over 80% of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities unemployed nationwide, the Wrights believe that Bitty & Beau’s Coffee creates a path for people with disabilities to become more valued, accepted and included in every community.

The original shop opened January 2016 in Wilmington, NC, and employed 19 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Bitty & Beau’s Coffee is coming to Auburn and Birmingham.  The Auburn location will be at 100 North Gay St.  The Birmingham location is to be determined.  This is exciting for those people with disabilities.  With an around 80% unemployment rate for persons with disabilities, this is great to see a business is willing to hire those with disabilities.  Learn more about Bitty & Beau’s Coffee at: https://www.bittyandbeauscoffee.com/
