UNICO: AWAKENING (ユニコ: 目覚めのおはなし) re-imagines the classic story by Osamu Tezuka, the “God of Manga” and the creator of ASTRO BOY, for a new generation of readers.
In this all-new, full-color, 172 page, 6” x 9” manga, the Eisner Award winning artist team Gurihiru (SUPERMAN SMASHES THE KLAN, the highly anticipated ULTRAMAN: ANOTHER GENE, character designs for NINTENDO SWITCH SPORTS), and acclaimed writer Samuel Sattin (graphic novel adaptation of the Academy Award Nominated film WOLFWALKERS) have created a charming story that reinvents Tezuka’s beloved character for a new generation of readers.
As the creators of this project, we are working in careful coordination with Tezuka Productions in Japan to bring this new vision forward. It is our shared hope that, in modern times, where the world can sometimes seem bleak, we can offer a tale of resilience as an homage to the God of Manga’s original messaging of social welfare and eco-consciousness, with our tale of resilience and hope.
