Crowdsourcing Mornings: The Andy Huggins Comedy Special

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

Most of America knows Andy Huggins from his standout appearance on America’s Got Talent in 2018. We all gasped a little when Howie Mandell recognized him from their days starting out together at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles. All of Houston comedy looked on as one of their own took center stage on one of the nation’s largest talent competitions.

My name is Slade Ham. I’ve known Andy Huggins for nearly twenty years as both a fellow comedian and as a friend. I’ve been fortunate in my own career to have learned a few things about comedy filmmaking. I’ve done stand-up comedy for 23 years, I’ve been part of documentaries around the world, and I’ve produced several comedy specials, including a previously successful Kickstarter for The Whiskey Brothers.

But enough about me; I’m just the guy making it. Let’s talk Andy Huggins!

What most people don’t realize about Andy is just how married he is to stand up comedy. He’s the elder statesman of the Houston scene. At 72 years old, he is at a different mic or show 3-5 nights a week. His legal pad never leaves his side. He talks theory with new comedians and old. I’ve personally never seen someone embody an art like Andy does stand up.

Which is what makes the non-existence of an Andy Huggins comedy special so tragic and in such desperate need of repair.

Your contribution will go directly to production. Cameras, lenses, lights, and artists to operate them. Original music. Theater rental. We’re building a set.

Plus, interviews with comedians and personalities that remember Andy in the era where he began. You’ll hear stories from original Outlaw Comics and from the comedians who work with him today. And of course, most importantly, a full-length set of Andy’s best material.

It’s about making a comedy film and about giving Andy Huggins the opportunity to do what does better than anything else in world in front of a theater full of adoring fans (YOU!).

It’s been 45 years in the making, and now it’s finally happening. And most importantly, you can be part of it. Every single dollar goes toward making the best film we can, and then every dollar past that goes toward promoting the special.

As of April 26th, this project has raised $21,600 of their $26,000 goal. This project has 7 days left to raise the $26,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $25, you will get livestream premiere access.  For a pledge of $50, you will get your name in the credits.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sladeham/the-andy-huggins-comedy-special?
