Diablo II: Resurrected
Diablo II was released back in 2000 and is often regarded as a classic in the RPG genre. It incorporates monsters, heroes, items, spells and an epic memorable story. There’s a huge community around the game with many people still avidly playing and buying items through the D2R store. Last year, the game was remastered, allowing players to relive the enchantment of the original but with enhanced graphics. If you’ve never played Diablo II before and were put off by the old graphics of the original, you should definitely give this version a go. It’s currently available on a range of consoles including PC.
Monster Hunter Rise
Capcom’s Monster Hunter series allows players to battle fearsome monsters using fully customizable combat. The latest instalment in the series is Rise, and it features enhanced graphics and increased combat customization options. Some Monster Hunter fans will argue that Monster Hunter World is the better game as it is more expansive, however Rise feels less rough around the edges and is definitely more approachable for newcomers. Disco Elysium
If you’re yearning for a truly unique RPG, Disco Elysium is certain to satisfy this yearning. This game allows you to play as a detective solving various grim crimes across a city block. It features a distinctive oil painting art style and unique soundtrack from Sea Power. There isn’t much combat in the game – it’s largely dialogue driven. The storylines are incredibly detailed, making it a truly immersive game. Disco Elysium is available on all new generation consoles.
NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…
NieR is a Japanese hack and slash RPG that was released back in 2010. It’s based in a unique fantasy/sci-fi world containing monsters called shades and a seemingly incurable disease called the Black Scrawl virus. The game was recently re-released last year under the lengthy title ‘Replicant ver.1.22474487139….’. This re-released version preserves much of the thrills of the original including the exciting characters and emotional story, but this time with better graphics and voice acting. If you love a compelling storyline, then this is definitely an RPG worth playing. You can play this game on Playstation, Xbox and Windows PC.
Biomutant
Described as a ‘post-apocalyptic kung-fu fable’, Biomutant is an absolutely thrilling game for anyone that loves dynamic combat. The fighting is a mix of martial arts melee and shooting with some crazy mutant powers thrown into the mix. Characters are fully customizable and you get to explore an interesting world in which humankind has been completely wiped out and replaced by animal mutants. The game is available on Playstation, Xbox and Windows PC.
