Crowdsourcing Mornings: The Beautiful: Poets Reimagine A Nation

Welcome to the Crowdsourcing Mornings segment!  Every weekday morning, Geek Alabama talks about and features one crowdsourcing project from crowdsourcing sites such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and others.  The hope with Crowdsourcing Mornings is to feature and help a project be successful and reach its fundraising goal.  Please enjoy today’s featured project!

As a proud sponsor of THE BEAUTIFUL, Gualala Arts is raising funds to print 2,000 copies of the full-color anthology. In addition, the funds raised will support THE BEAUTIFUL’s touring exhibit which will open on April 8th at the Gualala Arts Center. Featuring Poet Laureates, Pulitzer Prize-winning poets, poet-teachers, and experimental poets from every US state, district, territory, and commonwealth, this project is filled with collective wisdom and alters our ideas of beauty and belonging.

In the chaos of a constantly shifting world, we can turn to the poets. They invite us to re-envision beauty and challenge conventional ideals. They ask us to co-create just and equitable communities. And they show us how. This multicultural, multi-generational anthology redefines beauty in order to sustain and protect it.

In THE BEAUTIFUL, truth-telling, mentorship, activism, art-making, and sustainability practices inspire communal responsibility and help us reimagine beauty in surprising ways.

Featuring work by Joy Harjo, Juan Felipe Herrera, Eileen Myles, Sawako Nakayasu, Amit Majmudar, Dorianne Laux, Oliver Baez Bendorf, Arthur Sze, Dorothea Lasky, Craig Dworkin, E. Ethelbert Miller, Jaime Cortez, Sarah Rosenthal, Camille Guthrie, No‘u Revilla, and many others, THE BEAUTIFUL offers collective wisdom when we need it most.

Currently, THE BEAUTIFUL anthology is being printed at Edition One in Richmond, California. Along with the anthology, THE BEAUTIFUL will soon offer open source curriculum at thebeautifulpoets.org as well as a touring exhibition with exhibit locations throughout the country to be announced soon. The funds raised will support the printing, promotion, and distribution of the anthology as well as finance the materials and shipping expenses for the touring interactive exhibit.

THE BEAUTIFUL presents the United States’ foremost poets, one from each US state, district, commonwealth, and territory—all celebrating the beauty they have encountered. The poets’ work is in collaboration with something beautiful that they witnessed but did not create. The diversity of voices from all over the nation invites readers to encounter beauty in new ways and act with the integrity it inspires.

Truth-telling, stewardship and appreciation of nature, love of family, communal resistance and healing, governmental accountability, and unexpected grandeur—they are all here in full force. Beauty as we know it. Beauty that reminds us. Beauty that reveals and celebrates our highest selves.

As of March 30th, this project has raised $13,500 of their $15,000 goal. This project has 3 days left to raise the $15,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $30, you will get one book.  For a pledge of $60, you will get two books.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gualalaarts/the-beautiful-poets-reimagine-a-nation?
