This unforgettable story begins with the Drummer – a larger than life, inflatable advertisement standing guard outside of an ordinary cellphone store. In spite of his diligence and best performances the busy city passes him by without acknowledgment or notice… except one boy.
This one boy is Alex.
Alex does more than notice the Drummer. He believes the Drummer to be alive, real, and the best drummer there has ever been! A bond between them forms with each depending on seeing each other daily. One February day, the Drummer seems to disappear, and Alex is in crisis.

Our main character, Alex, is Autistic and experiences the world through different neuropathways than others. Children’s literature revolving around Autism and neurodiversity acceptance is presented in a direct way, often losing the interest of the reader without the beauty of a magical story.
Alex and the Drummer is carefully crafted story-telling. Readers, from young to old, will find themselves emotionally involved, relating to each member of the story.
Autism affects 1 in every 54 children in the United States.
Story-telling is children’s first introduction to their community and the world around them. Presenting them with engaging material mirroring real-life scenarios will be such a meaningful step toward a future with more hope and compassion for all neurodiverse abilities.
