Music Thursdays: “Googly Eyes” By Eric Herman And The Puppy Dogs

Welcome to Music Thursdays. Each week, Geek Alabama will feature an artist or band and their latest song and / or music video. People love music, and we love featuring artists and bands!

Beloved by families nationwide, multi-award-winning Eric Herman’s warm and witty music videos, led by the viral hit, “The Elephant Song,” have become hugely popular, with over 100 million views online.

To herald the upcoming release of Magic Beans, his ninth album for kids and families, Eric Herman has produced five all-new music videos. The first of these, the fun, catchy, slightly subversive “Googly Eyes,” is released today, November 19, 2021.

The protagonist in “Googly Eyes” gets into trouble every time he puts googly eyes on something. But he doesn’t stop, and his vision grows each time to a bigger and more daring canvas. His artistic expression cannot be suppressed as his coloring goes farther and farther outside the lines to the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Mona Lisa, the Eiffel Tower, London Bridge, the Taj Mahal, the Sphinx, and beyond.

“That’s what we want from kids and from art, to grow like magic beans beyond our limitations and our expectations,” says Eric Herman. “This video is me sticking big ol’ googly eyes onto the stuffiest images on the most hallowed walls in the most hallowed halls of my little corner of the cosmos. Because I really do believe that everything’s better with googly eyes.”

Eric Herman’s cool tunes for kids are at once ingeniously witty, indelibly memorable, and incredibly fun. His songs and videos have been featured nationally on PBS Kids, SiriusXM radio, Fox & FriendsThe Today Show, and in the Warner Brothers film, Life as We Know It. A version of “The Elephant Song” was even covered for a multi-platinum DVD release by Brazilian superstar, Xuxa.

Previous releases by Eric Herman include The Eric Herman Strikes Back (DVD, 2017), Bubble Wrap (2016), The Incredibly Spaced Out Adventures of Jupiter Jackson (2014, Parents’ Choice Award), Party Animal (2014, NAPPA Award), What a Ride! (2009, Parents’ Choice Award, NAPPA Award), Snail’s Pace (2007, Pearl Award), Snow Day! (2006), Monkey Business (2005), and The Kid in the Mirror (2003).
