Thornwillow Press is creating the first ever fine press edition of Toni Morrison’s legendary novel Song of Solomon. Letterpress printed and hand-bound, the Thornwillow edition celebrates the iconic novelist’s enduring legacy. There is perhaps no more towering figure of recent American literature than the legendary author Toni Morrison.
A once-in-a-generation talent, she amassed accolades too numerous to list, among them: the Pulitzer Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Nobel Prize in Literature—the first ever awarded to an African American woman. In the press release announcing the award, the Swedish Academy called her an artist who “in novels characterized by visionary force and poetic import, gives life to an essential aspect of American reality.”
In Song of Solomon, narrative transcends the realm of mere story, and is imbued with the power of myth. The favorite novel of President Barack Obama—one which he has often credited as the most formative in his life—Song of Solomon touches the soul, and in lyrical prose, teaches us “how to be and how to think.”
Today, we ask you to join us in creating an edition which will honor the legacy of one of the greatest American authors of all time. With your support, we are setting out to make the ultimate and first ever fine press edition of Toni Morrison’s iconic Song of Solomon — one which will live on long after we are gone.
