The Evening Post: How Popcorn Is Made | Regional Eats

If you had to name one snack from the Midwest, there’s no doubt the answer would be popcorn. States like Illinois and Indiana are among the nine major popcorn producing states in the popcorn belt region. Named the official snack food of Illinois, popcorn is a big deal in the Midwest.

Shops like Garrett’s and Nuts on Clark even have designated storefronts all over the state. We head out to Preferred Popcorn, a collective of farms in Indiana that plants 100 million pounds of popcorn every year. These carefully selected kernels are later made into popcorn at shops like Nuts on Clark. Food Insider gets an inside look at both the planting and making process of the popular snack.
