Crowdsourcing Mornings: Litter, Litter, Please Come Here

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

We are raising funds to offset the extremely high cost of self publishing our book here in the USA.  We are having the book printed here in America by one of the best printers in the world because we want to showcase our book in the highest quality hardcover product available.  The cost for quality is enormous, and we need your help to bring the book to life.

Our book is a story about our son, Oliver, who is on a mission to inspire others to become better stewards of our land.  When corona came, our tourism related business shuttered.  Instead of doing nothing, we started taking long walks on the beach as a family.  Oliver was four years old at the time and really enjoyed the walks and discovered the satisfaction in picking up litter along the way.

One day during a walk, Oliver suggested our family should have a race to see who could find the most. Our litter races soon became the highlight of each days walk. We have been keeping a total running tally of our trash, and thus far our family has picked up almost 3000 pounds off of our local beaches and waterways. Not only did Oliver’s litter races inspire our children’s book, he have also invented the Litter Rodeo. We have started hosting beach clean ups, where the top litter grabbers get awarded prizes. Our second rodeo is coming up in June and local businesses have donated over $5000 worth of prizes. One lucky family is going to even get a free beach vacation.

For every book sold, Oliver’s company, CleanHorizons.org is going to remove one pound of trash from our local beach and waterways.  If we are able to bring the project to scale, we have a small army of eco-warriors waiting on standby to help us multiply our impact.  Our area is often the focus of hurricanes and our shorelines are in desperate need of constant spring cleanings!

As of April 28th, this project has raised $1,600 of their $2,200 goal. This project has 2 days left to raise the $2,200 or it will not be funded.  For a pledge of $20, you will get one e-Book.  For a pledge of $40, you will get one hardcover book.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cleanhorizons/litter-litter-please-come-here?
