The Destinations You Need To Have On Your Travel Bucket List

Let’s face it. The pandemic and multiple lockdowns have left us all with a bit of a travel bug, and I think it’s safe to assume that holidays will be one of the first things we plan after restrictions have ended. But when the wide world opens up once again, where is the best place to visit? Here are some of the best places to go, in no particular order, with some quite unforgettable sights to see:

  1. Sydney, Australia

Whilst Sydney is mainly famous for its infrastructures such as the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, many other tourist attractions also make it such a fun place.

Places to Visit:

  • Darling Harbour- Home to Madame Tussauds, Sea Life Aquarium, boat rides, a cinema, and much more.
  • The Royal Botanic Garden- These gardens were first established in 1816 and include around 30 hectares of various botanical plants, making it an extremely scenic destination.
  • The Sydney Tower Eye- Here you can see what Sydney looks like from above, as this tower is 309 meters tall. You can also enjoy a nice meal in one of the revolving restaurants available to you.

  1. Tokyo, Japan

Like Sydney, Tokyo is another far-reaching destination, as it is approximately a 12 hour flight to this city from the UK (if you’re on a direct flight), so make sure you bring enough to entertain you on this long journey.

Places to Visit:

  • The Imperial Palace- Surrounded by beautiful 17th-century parks and moats.

●     Sensō-ji Temple- The most famous shrine in the city, dedicated to the Buddhist goddess of compassion (Kannon), with its breathtaking design, especially when illuminated at night.

  • The Ginza District- This is the perfect place to go shopping and to get all of your souvenirs and gifts. It is Tokyo’s busiest and most popular shopping area and has been for centuries, as it marks the middle point of where five ancient roads connecting Japan’s major cities met.

  1. Paris, France

This destination is a lot closer to those travelling from the UK. The proclaimed ‘city of love’ is a place that features on a lot of people’s bucket lists, and there’s a good reason for it.

Places to Visit:

  • The Eiffel Tower- classic tourist site, but a good one. The tower is 324 meters tall and was the tallest structure in the world until the Empire State Building was built.

●     Palais Garnier, Opéra National de Paris- This building holds a load of different events, from gala events and music performances to operas and ballet shows. Attending them allows you to see the beauty of the building at night.

  • Seine River- A boat cruise on the river is the perfect way to see Paris and its scenery, day-time or night-time.

  1. Bali, Indonesia

This is a destination you are going to want to visit. 2019 was a popular year for tourism in Bali and it is clear to see why. Bali is a place filled with natural beauty and tropical coasts.

Places to Visit:

  • Mount Batur- If hiking is your thing, you can trek to the top of this active volcano and see the sunrise over the caldera below, which has fast become a popular activity. Alternatively, you could admire its towering beauty from below.
  • Ubud Monkey Forest- If furry creatures are more your speed, this sacred sanctuary is full of grey long-tailed macaques that roam free, so you can get up close to these adorable animals.
  • Beaches- Including Nusa Dua beach, Kuta Beach, and beaches on the Nusa Islands. Great for if you want to step back from the urban side of Bali

  1. Santorini, Greece

This paradise of stunning sunsets, crisp white buildings, and picturesque views is what attracts so many newlyweds, couples, and tourists here.

Places to Visit:

  • Red Beach- An incredible site, situated beneath a red cliff wall and not far from Akrotiri. During the summer, it gets busy quickly so get there early to snag yourself a decent spot.

●     Beach at Perissa- Situated between the villages of Perissa and Perivolos. The volcanic black sand stretches for around 6km, with several cafes to enjoy.

●     Ammoudi Bay- The crystal clear water of the bay is around 200 steps down from Oia, and surrounded by tavernas. If you are more of an adrenaline junkie, cliff diving is also a popular option.

  1. Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Rio De Janeiro is known for being one of the most colorful and vibrant cities for carnivals, but there is so much more to it than that. From staggeringly beautiful views to busy city life, there is so much to do in this city.

Places to Visit:

●     Cristo Redentor- Translating to Christ the Redeemer in English, this giant statue overlooks the entire city from the top of Corcovado (709 meter summit) meaning you can see both the beautiful landscapes and the city below.

  • Copacabana- A picturesque beach that stretches for 4km, lined with various restaurants and cafes that you can enjoy.

●     Teatro Municipal (Municipal Theater)- Inspired by the Paris Opera of Charles Garnier, this building is even more luxurious on the inside than its exterior. You can attend ballet shows and concerts, or book a tour.
