Disability Awesome: Unless Someone Like You Cares…

Welcome to Disability Awesome. Each week, this post will feature a person or persons with mental and / or physical disabilities who are doing awesome things! As someone with an disability, I love it when others when disabilities do great things!

A couple of years ago TEDx Birmingham brought in Lindy Cleveland for a great speaking session.

Is there someone you care about where life just isn’t right? In this touching talk, Lindy Cleveland shares her inspiration for founding a continuing education school for adults with developmental disabilities, and how we can apply that same mindset to help improve the lives of those we care about.

Lindy Cleveland imagines a world where adults with developmental disabilities are not seen through the lens of their disability, but rather through what they offer their community.

A 2014 Samford University graduate, Lindy is an advocate for adults with developmental disabilities. While in school, she organized the outreach event Dance for Downs. Following graduation, she took a leap of faith and founded the nonprofit school Unless U where she serves as Executive Director.

Lindy is passionate about serving her students and their families through continuing education, creating an environment that promotes independence.
