This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at: https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines

The Basketball net is arguably the most important piece of equipment in basketball — equaled perhaps only by the ball itself. Without the net, there is no game. While having a net is essential, it’s also highly important to have a net of an appropriate height.

There was a time when basketball nets were a simple thing. From wooden peach baskets attached to balcony railings to today’s unbreakable basketball nets, the evolution of the basketball goal was influenced to a degree by 2016 NBA Hall of Fame inductee Shaquille O’Neal. BUT first, why we need a basketball net on the hoop?

There are some benefits to having a net on the hoop. Now nets help break a ball’s fall. The net helps control the direction of the ball when going through the rim, besides when the ball hits the rim first and bounces through, The net helps slow the ball down so it’s not always bouncing the headlight after a make and usually makes the ball land in the same general area after going through. Nets give players a sense of depth for good aim and allow refs to see what the basket was made of. Without a net it’s sometimes hard to tell if someone has made a bucket or not. Beyond these functions, nets add to the audio, kinetic and aesthetic experience that leaves players driving for “nothin but net.” Think about how your net might move, look, sound and function. Unconventional approaches are encouraged.

As of January 18th, this project has raised $100 of their $669 goal. This project has 58 days left to raise the $669 goal or it will not be funded.  For a pledge of $25, you will get one black or white carbon fiber net.  For a pledge of $37, you will get two carbon fiber nets.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kharbonet/carbon-fiber-basketball-net-20
