Crowdsourcing Mornings: CORVID-19

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at: https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines

2020 has been a challenging year for all of us. No one expected the world to come to a grinding halt. No one expected stores to run out of toilet paper, or the Tiger King to be a thing on Netflix, but here we are.

After planning, prepping, and purchasing all of the supplies for our 2020 event, the pandemic hit. Everything started shutting down. Conventions and all in-person events were cancelled.  RavenCon led the way, putting our guests’ safety above all else, and we were one of the first to cancel—3 weeks before the convention. We had spent eleven months purchasing supplies for an event that wasn’t going to happen.

As a fan-run convention, we pride ourselves in being there for emerging artists, writers, and vendors. We may be small, but our heart is mighty.

We know the community is vital to many of you. Conventions are a way to meet with your friends, to make new friends and new connections. To boldly go where you haven’t been before, and to come together as a family. We don’t want this to end, but 2020 was certainly bent on it. This is where we need your help.

Michael Pederson had an idea (a lot of RavenCon stories start with this sentence, by the way).  Why not make something everyone can enjoy? We are all home much more often now; what’s better than reading a good book? So, we reached out to our past guests, and began collecting our “tribute” to 2020: CORVID-19, an anthology. Yes, you read that right. CORVID-19. An anthology themed around the corvidae family of birds—ravens, crows, bluejays, magpies, etc.

Our generous and talented author friends have donated their stories, now we need your help to get this published. You can also support the convention so we can thrive for years to come.

As of January 14th, this project has raised $4,500 of their $3,000 goal. This project has 30 days left to raise as much as it can. For a pledge of $5, you will get your name in their book.  For a pledge of $10, you will get one CORVID-19 Anthology Digital Copy.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/481729145/corvid-19?
