Staying Safe When You Spend Time Outdoors This Pandemic

2020 has seen many changes in our day to day lives, no matter where in the world we might be and no matter your individual situation before the pandemic. The rapid spread of coronavirus and Covid-19 across the world has seen many of us have to change our day to day lives to slow and minimise the spread of the virus.

Many of these changes have been government implemented and many include social isolation and social distancing measures, so chances are you aren’t engaging in the usual social activities you would be. But this doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t do anything for the foreseeable future. Instead, many people are deciding to spend more time outdoors instead. Of course, this comes hand in hand with new risks that you may be unfamiliar with. So, what can you do to stay safe when spending time outdoors? These are a few areas to focus on!

Only Visit Permitted Places

Many of us are deciding to go on long walks or hikes. This gives you a chance to do something outside without having to be in close proximity to a lot of other people. This, of course, can be great. But it really is important to only visit permitted places and trails. Why? Well, wandering off the beaten track can see you land yourself in trouble. Permitted routes will be safe. Going off the tracks can see you in spaces with dangerous drops, dangerous animals or other potential hazards. Since 1850, there have even been accidents from mine blasts. So, stay where you know.  It’s also a good idea to make sure you have a map of your chosen route. This will help you to stay where you’re supposed to be and can also help you to find your way back.

Remember to Wear Sunscreen

Many of us only bother putting sunscreen on when we’re on vacation in a particularly hot and sunny destination. But the truth is you should be wearing sunscreen every time you head outside. You can get a sunburn or experience sun damage from UV rays no matter how cloudy or overcast the sky may seem or how grim the weather may appear. Choose the right SPF for yourself and top up when you’re out for a long time. This will be good for both your short term and long term health.

Maintain Social Distancing Measures

Remember that even when you’re outside, you should still maintain social distancing with others. This means remaining two metres apart from anyone you don’t live with. Sure, the virus is less likely to spread outdoors than it is indoors, but it’s still best to be careful and wary at all times. This will keep you in good habits too!

These are just a few pieces of advice that could really help you when it comes to staying safe while spending time outdoors during this pandemic. So, keep them in mind! You’ll never know when they could come in handy!
