Crowdsourcing Mornings: Duru – A Game About Mole Rats And Depression

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at: https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines

We, Kerstin, Verena and Sandra, got to know each other during studying Game Design and are focused on story-driven games. We want to explore topics like mental health, social constraints and cultural differences in a serious but light-hearted way. By developing computer games we want to raise awareness about the things we usually do not talk about. We tell stories from different angles, closing the gap between serious games and entertainment.

Duru is a 2D puzzle platformer about the mole rat Tuli, who is suffering from depression. The focus of the game is on misunderstandings that may happen in every day social situations with someone who suffers from this illness. It also offers some solutions that can help in this situations. So this game is for those who want to learn about depression but are afraid of the topic. It is also a game for players who are looking for a different approach to puzzle platformers due to the AI (artificial intelligence) game mechanic / companion, that works with and against players.

With Duru we want to raise awareness about depression. You will get to know a colorful yet serious approach to learn more about mental health and you can help people who are affected by this illness.

As of August 24th, this project has raised $17,000 of their $17,681 goal. This project has 5 days left to raise the $17,681 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $2, you will get project updates.  For a pledge of $24, you will get access to the game.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/twisted-ramble/duru?
