Crowdsourcing Mornings: Cody Block: Introducing Coding One Block At A Time

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Hi! We are QUBS, a Swiss company, and we’re launching our first educational toy: Cody Block!  Cody Block is a Montessori inspired, screen-free wooden toy for children 3+, introducing the basics of computational thinking through tangible programming.  It’s a busy city! Go on adventures with Cody, help him find his way home by driving through the cityscape one block at a time! Create and learn the basics of coding, it’s hands on programming!

Cody Block introduces the first concepts of computational thinking to young children via tangible programming. Your task is to lay out a path that leads Cody back to his house by positioning the Building Blocks in a correct order.  Each Building Block gives a unique directional command (turn left, turn right, U turn, repeat last command, stop, record path, play path), together they create a sequence of instructions (the basis of any algorithm).

Cody Block comes with the City Guide, a story book with several exercises & adventures providing different learning outcomes.  Children can play with Cody for hours without the need of any smartphone, laptop or screen. We have developed a specific RFID technology (patented!) that is embedded in every wooden block.

Cody Block has been designed with gender equity in mind, it is as much fun for boys as for girls. Also, there are no written information on the toy, it’s ready to play even if your child does not read.

As of April 8th, this project has raised $31,000 of their $77,146 goal. This project has 28 days left to raise the $77,146 goal or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $6, you will get project updates.  For a pledge of $165, you will get one Cody Block set.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/qubs/cody-block-introducing-coding-one-block-at-a-time-ages-3-9?
