Help groundbreaking podcasters Lewis Raven Wallace and Ramona Martinez complete their project “The View from Somewhere,” a podcast about journalists from marginalized and oppressed communities who have challenged and changed the idea of “objective” journalism. The podcast explores new and old models for integrity and truth-telling in order to inspire journalists and storytellers whose heroes have been written out of the history books. The final series will be an incisive, curious history, and a serious look at the possibilities for subjective journalism in the 21st century, useful to anyone who cares about the future of journalism in the U.S.

Do you ever feel like we’re living in a dystopia? What if journalism was about building the world we want, not just reflecting the world we have?
Listening to the news can make us feel helpless. Reports of environmental disaster, violence, injustice, political horse races and a White House that deals in falsehoods—it can all feel hopeless and broken. But there’s a long tradition of hopeful, change-making journalism that pushes for liberation and justice.

“The View from Somewhere: A Podcast About Journalism With a Purpose” is a single-season podcast about people who have challenged and changed journalism in U.S. history. Through narrative storytelling and interviews, it explores the origins of “objective” journalism, dispelling the myth of neutral journalism in this country. The podcast features journalists from oppressed communities who have attempted new ways of thinking about and practicing journalism, and who have faced obstacles due to racism, transphobia, and sexism within journalism. It explores the connections between “objectivity,” racism and white supremacy, and lifts up the stories of journalists who have stood up to power in order to build a better world.

As of January 20th, this project has raised $9,500 of their $16,600 goal. This project has 16 days left to raise the $16,600 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $1, you will get a dance party playlist.  For a pledge of $10, you will get a podcast bonus episode.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lewispants/the-view-from-somewhere-podcast-0?
