Music Thursdays: Music From On The Fence

On the Fence is a band that originally formed out of the larger Abby’s Old Time Jam, hosted by Abby Parks on the third Thursday of the month at St. Mark’s UMC. Abby Parks (vocals, guitar, mandolin, banjo), Larry Harvey (guitar), Tommy Walker (upright bass), and Wayne Jackson (vocals, dobro, guitar) decided to collaborate and put together a set of songs in the genres of bluegrass, gospel, folk, and country. In their early stages of brainstorming a name for their group, Parks was asked the name of the band by someone interested in booking them, and within the course of the conversation, Parks used the phrase “on the fence” in reference to something. The person replied, “That should be the name of your band!” She brought it back to the others, and the name stuck. Since then they have enjoyed begun performing locally at events like the Jacksonville and Anniston farmers markets, the annual BBQ and Bluegrass event hosted by St. Michael’s and All’s Angels Church, and more!

Their band sings gospel, bluegrass, old time, and country tunes. They perform at outdoor events, churches, and other special events.  Enjoy a selection of songs they performed at a past event below!
