Explore The US Government Program That Pays For Your Flights

Did you know that the USA Government actually pays the airlines some money for some flights across the USA?  The program is called the essential air service.  It’s a U.S. government program enacted to guarantee that small communities in the United States, which had been served by certificated airlines prior to deregulation in 1978, maintained commercial service.

The USDOT subsidizes airlines to serve communities across the country that otherwise would not receive scheduled air service.  And currently, there are 159 communities that have this service.  Without the US Government, no air service would be provided to these far out isolated small town airports.

Wendover Productions talks about how this service works below.  And why this service is essential for the transport of people and goods across the United States.
