Roadscapes Wednesday: Tearing Down The Alaskan Way Viaduct And Transforming Seattle’s Waterfront

A major eyesore structure is completely gone from the Seattle waterfront.  With the opening of the new Seattle tunnels, the Washington Department of Transportation removed the old elevated Alaskan Way Viaduct.  The Alaskan Way Viaduct was a double-deck concrete highway that marked Seattle’s waterfront for more than 60 years.  Old and seismically vulnerable, crews began carefully demolishing the roadway in February 2019.  In September 2019 they brought down the final section of double-deck highway.  This video below captures the meticulous work of demolishing an urban highway and transforming an iconic waterfront.
