Keep the air flowing. – If you have an air conditioner, summer is the perfect time to be using them. They cool the room quick and through the night. Although not as cold as the AC, an electric fan can keep the air flowing as well.

However, if you do not have those, don’t fret. There are still several ways to keep the room cool. If you have large windows, take advantage of that. If it is safe enough, keep those windows open to let the breeze in. Air circulating helps in keeping down the temperature.

However, large windows can be a disadvantage as well. It allows plenty of sunlight during the day, making the room hotter as a result. Consider investing on blackout curtains or blinds to keep the light away from the room. This way, you make the room cooler.

Change your bed and beddings. –  It’s also the time of the year that you should be more particular to your bedsheets and pillowcases. Their texture would definitely affect your sleep. So, choose a fabric that feels cool to the skin. That goes for your sleepwear also, make sure it’s also made out of fabric that doesn’t make you sweat.

And if your mattress is old, replace it also. An old, rickety mattress won’t help you sleep better. The summer heat is already not helping, so you might as well sleep on a comfortable bed. Some people may find it an inconvenience to replace their mattress in the middle of summer festivities.

You don’t have to worry about that anymore because you can buy a mattress in a box and you can even buy that online. Replace your mattress without disrupting your routine. At least with a new bed, it may be hot but you can sleep more comfortably.

You can also try the ancient Egyptian way of sleeping. They use dampened blankets to cool themselves down. You may want to layer your mattress with a towel to avoid soaking it. Alternatively, you can invest in a Nolah mattress, which is made for people who sleep hot at night.

Turn off the lights and the electronic gadgets. – Electronics produce heat so minimize your usage when you are approaching your bed time. You don’t need to turn on every light at night. If you can, just use your lights when needed. Besides, the sun sets pretty late during summer so take advantage of that natural lighting.

Your light bulbs and other electronic gadgets also produce heat when used. If you have many bulbs and gadgets in use inside the room, they will all contribute in increasing the room’s temperature. So use them sparingly when you can.

Hot summer nights are here but there are ways to counter them. You can still have your restful sleep if you try some of these tips.
